NFTs

NFT is short for non-fungible token. Buying an NFT means buying a certified digital file, kind of like a signed copy. You can print any Mona Lisa and hang on the wall, but you don’t own it. Yes, you can save any jpeg on any website, but with same issue.
NFT solves it, giving ability to own a certified digital copy of anything, in my case - photography.

The file can be put in the frames, put on the laptops or mobile, lend to galleries, gifted and resold. Basically it’s like owning any other physical art. But digital. And stored forever.

My journey in the NFTs started in early February 2021, when I’ve “minted” my first “token” (meaning “created an NFT” in the crypto-lingo). Did it on the platform called Rarible. It sold two days later for $180 and subsequently re-sold for $600 4 weeks later.

I had no idea what was going on or how exactly the whole thing works, but thought — why not! I’ve only every sold prints of my photography, so this was the first for me (and most photographers) to be able to sell digital versions of our work! In the world where the screen is the king it was a revelation.

It’s been over two months I’m in this space now.
I’ve minted 12 photographs of mine, which have all been bought up at various prices. Having spent those 8 weeks on Ethereum-based (not going into the details, it’s a crypto-currency like Bitcoin) platforms called Rarible and Foundation.

For the next chapter in my NFT journey I’m releasing my photography work on Tezos-based platform called Hic, short for Hicetnunc (I know, so catchy!).
The work will be released in so-called “editions”, meaning not 1/1 copies, but multiples of (so 20/20, for example), making the prices more affordable to those interested in collecting the photography!
